I dont know how I get so lucky some times . A fellow Oppo is letting me drive his Jeep Cherokee 2001 model I6 5 speed until I get the motor swapped into the Datassun . Well this weekend I made some progress .

Lucky for me , unlucky for my buddy "Smalls" who wrecked his 2000 Camaro SS that happened to have a built T56 and a LS7 with a Fab9 Rear end around a Fire Hydrant . The transmission clutch and flywheel are all headed for the datsun now. Best part is he replaced the clutch a month before wrecking the car so things like this Spec clutch thats brand new I'm getting !

Built T56

Spec Clutch

Flywheel

with the Engine Harness and transmission harness all for 1500 bucks !

Great friends are the best tool you can have in your box when building a car like this .

I drove up from Austin Friday night got some work done to this 5.3 liter then Saturday drove down with a truck and trailer picked the car up that leaked gas all over the street while doing so and drove back just to drive back to Austin Sunday .. So a long weekend nonetheless but a productive one .

What paint did you use on the exhaust manifolds?

Thats actually just the covers lol .. I was bored so I painted the Manifold heat shields .. I dont know if they will end up on the car when its complete or not .

The paint is from Autozone its Black Wrinkle paint thats High Temp .. You cant miss it just look in the section of high temp paints and find the one that says wrinkle finish .. it makes it look similar to a stock B Series honda valve cover if your familiar with what that texture is like .

I'd be wary of a Spec branded clutch. Everyone I know who had one had theirs fall apart in 500 miles or so. Turbo V6 saab, Evo, S2000, and others. I can't imagine your V8 will do it any favors.

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if it was a new version of Resto-motive's stuff. Any of the parts store paints I've used have always burned off of headers and manifolds, even after sandblasting and oven-baking.

Depends on which clutch, how it was set up, driving style, etc etc.

There are plenty of F-body guys that run them and are happy. There are also plenty of horror stories. If you do not break the clutch in properly and take care during installation it will not live long at all. At the very least he should inspect both sides of the disc and the flywheel surface to see what it looks like.

I like to think it will be ok . I'm not in the position to be wary .. Wary cost money that I don't have . If the clutch blows when I put the car together I'll be saving for a new one until then this things great !

The car it came off of made around 550 to the wheels so I like to think it will be able to hold my stock 5.3 power which will be half that . lets hope

I expect this paint to peel right off after one run of nitrous through the motor .. then I'll just take them off until then they look pretty good .

LOL. Sounds about right. If you DO decide to paint the manifolds, Restomotive's grey exhaust stuff seems to hold up nice if you are careful with your prep work.

The clutch has a bump start .. it was using about half of the clutch plate to grab for the first few days until it was adjusted .. Either way the clutch held a 5 grand launch from a LS7 F body on slicks when he wrecked it doing a test pass . I'm not worried about it at all holding my stock 5.3 power .. I'll be taking another look at the clutch when I do a cam swap in a few months .

No plans to paint the manifolds once I get the motor in the car I'll look into doing some shorty type headers .. I really dont think long tubes would work too well on the Datassun it being a low car to begin with .
